Peter Newry

see the Artists prints

Peter Newry was born in 1939 at Newry Station and lived there until 1989 when he moved to Ivanhoe Station near Kununurra. He picked cotton while he lived around Kununurra. From there he went to live at Police Hole near the Keep River National Park which is situated close to the Northern Territory/ Western Australian border.

Newry started painting on a regular basis in 2002 and has fast become one of Warringarri Aboriginal Arts leading artists. His works successfully capture the pictorial East Kimberley style, while his subject matter, which addresses the local landscape and Dreaming stories, is rendered with his personal vision.
