Arnhem
land aboriginal artist -
|
Aboriginal artist Garry Djorlom’s paintings depict traditional themes, many of them inspired by the ancient rock art galleries of Injalak hill, near Gunbalanya in Arnhem land.
His paintings show mimi spirits, Namarrkon the Lightning Spirit and dancing Namorrodos as well as other figures from Aboriginal mythology or Dreamtime and also nature.
Gary often fills his work with the intricate “rarrk” or crosshatching design belonging to his clan. This technique is distinct to Arnhem land art, each artist having a specific design which becomes his individual signature and can not be used by anyone else.
Garry Djorlom’s work has been shown in Perth and Melbourne.
